  • “In true Charlie Brown fashion, we didn’t finish first,” said Gina Huntsinger, director of the museum. “But we will never stop trying to kick that football or win that baseball game! We are so grateful for the national recognition and being in fourth place. It all comes down to our fans, their love of the ‘Peanuts’ characters, and their respect for what Charles Schulz gave the world.” The Schulz Museum is honored to take the 4th spot in USA Today's 10Best Readers’ Choice travel awards for Best Pop Culture Museum!

  • Charles M. Schulz was once asked in an interview how he would like to be remembered: "As just somebody who drew a real good comic strip. I think I'll be lucky if I get remembered that way." Today, and always, we remember Charles Monroe “Sparky” Schulz (November 26, 1922–February 12, 2000), creator of Snoopy and the Peanuts gang, who passed away 24 years ago today—just hours before his final Peanuts comic strip ran in newspapers around the world. 📸: Charles Schulz at his drafting table, c. 1971. • 🎧 Have you heard? "Unpacking Peanuts," hosted by cartoonists Michael Cohen, Jimmy Gownley, and Harold Bucholz, is a fan-made podcast where the three take an in-depth look at the Peanuts comic strip. In a recent episode, Museum President Jean Schulz and Curator Benjamin Clark joined the discussion to give their insight on Charles M. Schulz and his beloved comic strip! "I get asked all the time what was his [Charles M. Schulz] sense of humor? And I try to think about it, and finally, I realized he liked his own jokes."— Jean Schulz Listen here: pod.link/unpackingpeanuts

  • What an incredible event! We want to thank actor and writer Bob Odenkirk and illustrator Erin Odenkirk for their discussion about the creative process and their new book, "Zilot & Other Important Rhymes," and for sticking around after to meet guests and sign books! A special thank you to moderator Tom Gammill for his delightful and hilarious questions, too! During the live conversation, Bob Odenkirk shared the process of writing silly poems with his kids when they were young:   "I'd say, 'What did you do today? Where are you going tomorrow? Or what did we eat for dinner?' Then I'd write that down...Then I'd ask, 'What is a word that rhymes with today?'... I'd get it in there. Now they have two lines about something that they did or saw or ate in the world, and then right away—there is a rhyming word that is not necessarily the best, but who cares? Even then, the kid has an achievement because they rhymed something. Already, in two lines, they feel like I won. I won this poem." [Photo 5, left to right: Bob Odenkirk, Jean Schulz, Erin Odenkirk, Tom Gammill]

Great panel discussion at the Schulz Museum moderated by Paige Braddock with Astronaut Mike Massimino and the incredible Artemis Launch Director Charlie Blackwell Thompson. (Oh. And I was on it too.). Amazing stories about space exploration and all of the three different Snoopy’s who have gone where most humans have not gone - including the one and only Zero Gravity Indicator from Artemis 1.

  • Initiating… SNOOPY HAPPY DANCE! The Schulz Museum is thrilled to announce that our book, "Charles M. Schulz: The Art and Life of the Peanuts Creator in 100 Objects," has won the Eisner Award for Best Comics-Related Book!!! 🎉   We share this tremendous honor with our publisher Weldon Owen, the teams at Peanuts Worldwide and Charles M. Schulz Creative Associates, and the many Museum staff members and contributors who worked on the book.   We are especially grateful to Jean Schulz, the Schulz family, and the extraordinary Peanuts fans who have supported the Museum and its mission over the years.   Inspired by Charles Schulz's recent centennial, the book offers a comprehensive look at the cartoonist's life and work through 100 objects from the Schulz Museum's collection, including original artwork, letters, and personal belongings.   We are so very proud of this book and its recognition from the Eisner Awards. Thank you to everyone who made this possible! 📷: Co-authors Nat Gertler and Benjamin L. Clark accepting the Eisner Award on behalf of the Schulz Museum at San Diego Comic-Con on July 21, 2023.
